Fingers

Fresh way to split big groups into
smaller ones

Trainers are constantly called upon to come up with fresh and interesting ways to subdivide groups into smaller groups.

In his Brain Friendly Trainer blog, Paul Wright shares 10 of his favorite methods.

One of our favorite ways is to distribute Raffle Tickets at the start of a workshop.  You can use the tickets to divide groups by last digits, odds/evens, multiples of 4, etc.  Double Bonus: you can also use the tickets
for prize drawings. And, if you
time your prize drawings just after a break and award prizes only to participants who are physically in the room, we guarantee more timely returns from breaks!

Community Puzzle
inspiration
is the heart of change

A trainer asked recently, how do you inspire and motivate your learners to do their best, embrace change and/or make a difference?

The Community Puzzle is an amazing tool to demonstrate what groups can do when they put their minds and talents together.  Hand out one puzzle to each person in your group and ask them to illustrate their puzzle piece(s) with images that represent their company, role, values, challenges, or anything else.

Trading Places -
an Active Training Tool
Mel Silberman, 1942-2010
Mel Silberman
This past February, Trainers Warehouse and the whole training community lost a friend.  Dr. Mel Silberman, trainer and teacher extraordi-naire, and author of 34 books on training and education, passed away after a 13-year battle with lung cancer.

Mel was known around the world as a pioneer of active learning, interpersonal intelligence, and team development. To us, he was an energetic advocate of tools and techniques to make training interactive, fun, and effective.

In celebration of his life and contributions we wanted to share one of the tools presented on Mel's website--the Trading Places exercise--a great technique to help participants get acquainted; exchange opinions; and consider new ideas, values, or solutions to problems.
