when asking questions
extend your wait time to 5 seconds or more

Don't be too quick to call on the first hand that goes up.  By doing so, you signal to other students that they should stop thinking of an answer. Experts suggest that you extend your wait time to 5 to 10 seconds!

One customer told us that his trainers are taught to wait until the Flashing Timer Ball's light goes off (about 10 seconds), before taking any answers.

"The definition of the word 'humane' is:

That which is marked or motivated by concern with the alleviation of suffering
."

In his article on HumanE Presentations, Rich Allen opens by asking us, "What if our #1 goal as corporate presenters was to make the experience as humane as possible for the people involved?"

To begin to understand what's at stake, we must first understand why Allen capitalizes the letter E.

He explains that it stands for Engagement, because "that is the core of every dynamic, valuable, and successful presentation.  When people are truly engaged, fully emotionally present and involved, they will remember our presentations.  Not just that they had a good time - but the actual content."

What follows are the nine strategies which, when used together, will ensure that whatever information you hope to convey will be memorable for your audience or class.
