OF THE MONTH |

Be
Transparent!
Don't
make your training a "surprise party."
Instead, make sure everyone knows what you're
(they're) going to do, how you're going to do
it, and why. Explain the method behind your
madness. . . so that they can "buy in" to
the training process.
If
there is a reason to temporarily keep your group in
the dark, tell them so. Ask them to suspend their
questions for an hour or so until the exercise is
complete. Then, in your debrief, be sure to come back
to the question of "why." Ask the group what
lessons they can take from the experience.

Do
the Twist!
The
Tangle

specially selected for kinesthetic learners. It feels
sleek and smooth to the touch. Mindlessly twist and
turn it, allowing your mind to focus on learning.

Keep
your eyes out for this new magazine
Training
Treasures magazine is an organic, and beautifully
designed, publication that presents new training ideas
in visually interesting ways.
This
"no-advertisements" quarterly publication
has just 20 pages. But each offers tips, strategies,
exercises, and yes, "TREASURES" for getting
attendees involved.
We just saw the Premier Issue and looks mighty
intriguing!

FEATURE:
Doing the Right Thing

by
Lou Russell
"Have
you ever attended a seminar that you enjoyed enormously
-- one in which you had a great time filling out charts,
doing group exercises, sharing experiences and generally
felling like a wonderful person? And have you ever,
months later, stumbled upon the workbook you took away
from that seminar, read the title and realized that
while the class was great fun, you learned nothing
valuable about its ostensible topic?
"Turn
it around. As an instructor, have you ever tried out a
new exercise that drew enthusiastic reviews from
participants and bumped up your evaluation averages? And
have you continued using it -- despite your misgivings
about its actual usefulness?"
As
a "broker of learning," explore how you might
think about the trade-offs and what path you might
choose.

Russell is CEO of Russell Martin & Associates, a
