by Karl M. Kapp
In his article, Teaching Facts with Fun, Online Games, Karl Kapp explains that our new generation of learners, called "Gamers," were born at the same time as Pac Man, MS Windows, and the World Wide Web, and are demanding fun, interactive learning experiences on-line.
Indeed, trainers have grown accustomed to interactive and fun LIVE training, but our ON-LINE courses have been slow to follow their example.
Kapp identifies 6 different types of knowledge that can be taught through games, including: facts, concepts, rules, procedures, principles, and problem-solving. He then looks at the kinds of games that are best used to teach each of these -- labeling games, concept games, board/trivia games, role plays, or simulations. He offers a host of examples and tells you how to do it.
