TOOL OF THE MONTH

Be Bold. Accept Input!

I know markers aren't that sexy compared to electronic whiteboards and iPads, but these Charters markers are worth a look!

If you like recording participants' input and comments, a flip chart and these great markers are the way to go.  What's the big deal?  I'll tell you!

  • The chisel tip lets you write with a broad or narrow stroke.
  • The tip is firm and doesn't break down with repeated use.
  • The colors are bright and bold.
  • There's plenty of ink, so they last a good, long time.
  • They are unscented.
  • They are sold individually, so you can buy any color in any quantity.

Charters Markers (Black, Blue, Red, Green, Purple)

$2.25 each

TOY OF THE MONTH

3 favorite game shows for the price of 2

Game shows remain a customer favorite to playfully introduce new material or test understanding and retention at the end of the day.

When it comes to the question of which software to buy, the rule of thumb is "you get what you pay for."  The freebie games available online look unprofessional and are loaded with advertisments. The super-expensive high-end games have loads of bells and whistles and fancy graphics.

Our favorites are the ones that are "Just right" -- and Gameshow Pro is at the top of the list.  The graphics look great. You have lots of opportunities to customize looks and sounds, integrate graphics and videos . . . and it's priced right in the sweet spot.  The 3-game bundle includes learning favorites: Categories (like Jeopardy), Feud, and Tic Tac Toe.

TIP OF THE MONTH

End-of-day Post-its

When asked about how she likes to wrap up the end of a learning day, Lisa Yunek writes: "Create an affinity chart with Post-it notes. Each person writes one or two do's or don'ts or tips learned from the "event." These are collected and quickly grouped and groups are summarized back to the audience. "Okay, here's what you think is important from the day..." Start with largest grouping. It makes the audience the expert and . . .

Stop Presenting,

And start engaging

by Robin Hatcher

"Face it. Your meetings and presentations are boring," says Robin Hatcher in a recent article featured in American Express's Open Forum.

Hatcher warns, "It's easy enough to blame PowerPoint....but blaming the slides for a boring presentation is like blaming the dining room for a boring dinner party."

Although trainers and teachers don't often consider themselves presenters, they do often have to present new material to their learners.

These three rules of engagement, assembled over the years by master presenter Robin Hatcher, are important reminders to help us stay on top of our game.  Read more here.
